DESIGN CHALLENGE: 

Unify G-Street by uncovering community needs and testing design strategies to bring life back to the street post Covid-19.

INTERVIEWS:

We conducted 16 one-on-one interviews in the Davis Community, each ranging in length from 15 to 45 minutes.

DESIGN DECISION: 

Playground Talk Tubes throughout the street. 

  • Wants to grow deeper community and connection between varying groups of people

  • Worried about safety 

  • Prideful of the Davis green spaces and parks

  • Consistent with Davis Pride around green spaces and park

RAPID PROTOTYPING:

Low fidelity talk tubes prototypes will be placed on G-Street with hidden phones on a speaker call with one another to simulate them functioning.

RESULTS:

We took to the street mid week from 4:00-6:00pm to gain immediate feedback. ​

We observed an interaction every 2.5 minutes during the 90 minute trial period, and conducted intercept interviews. 

"I never thought I'd have the courage to talk through the tube untill I heard a voice coming through.... it was wonderful to actually meet someone new"
